Support from the Swedish Energy Agency

  • by

Thanks to the Swedish Energy Agency for their support through grant nr 51392-1.

This will enable ModC Networks AB and its partners to complete the feasibility study paving the way towards the creation of a pilot stretch of VelAir/VelSol cycling tracks.

Energimyndigheten covers 50% of the projects costs, the other half being financed by ModC Networks AB. The project takes place from November 2020 until end of March 2021, and can lead to a follow-up demonstration project.

Project Summary: This project aims at developing the modular wooden cycling track concept, in ground and elevated configurations. It will investigate the key requirements, hurdles and benefits associated with the development and construction of a pilot stretch of (partly) elevated, wooden, soft mobility road. Building such infrastructure in wood instead of asphalt saves between 55% and 90% of its weight without significantly reducing its expected lifetime. We will further investigate the life-cycle, sustainability impact of the product, as well as its social and safety aspects to put into light the solution’s advantage and work towards proof of concept. The solution as it currently exists will be reviewed and key future developments earmarked for the next stage, in particular, its re-usability and repairability. Key stakeholders will be identified and contacted to set the foundations for the design and installation of a full-scale demonstration project somewhere in Sweden.
